Visit to quote

Hedge Trimming.

Hedge cutting and shaping for residential gardens. We quote on visit so we can see the size, type and access before pricing.

How it works

What to expect.

01

Free site visit

Hedges vary wildly — a 30m run of laurel is very different work to a small box hedge. The site visit takes 5 minutes and gives us the info to price fairly: length, height, density, hedge type, access for waste removal.

02

Right time of year

Most domestic hedges are cut twice a year — once in late spring (after the main flush of growth) and once in late summer. Some hedges (formal evergreens like box, yew) prefer a single late-summer cut; faster-growing species like privet or leylandii benefit from two or three. We'll suggest the right schedule on the visit.

03

Cut, shape, clear

Top, sides and front faces cut to the agreed line. Cuttings collected as we go — we don't leave a pile on your lawn. Any specific shaping (rounded tops, formal lines, neighbour-fence considerations) gets discussed before we start.

The method

How we actually do it.

Cordless petrol and battery hedge trimmers cover most domestic jobs, with extension poles for tall hedges. For very thick or neglected hedges we use a brushcutter blade attachment to reset the line before the regular trim. Bird-nesting season (March to August) is a real consideration — RSPB guidance is to check carefully and avoid cutting if nests are active. We follow that guidance and will postpone a cut if we spot an active nest, no charge.

Common scenarios

When this service is the right fit.

Annual maintenance

The most common job. A regular cut once or twice a year keeps the hedge in shape and stops it creeping into footpaths, driveways or your neighbour's garden. Best paired with a lawn round so the whole garden gets attention on one visit.

Restoring an overgrown hedge

A hedge that's been left for years can usually be brought back, but it's more than a regular trim — it's a reset cut, sometimes done in stages over two seasons. Quoted on visit. After the reset, an annual maintenance cut keeps it in shape.

Boundary lines and neighbours

We cut to the agreed line. If there's ambiguity about the boundary, or a hedge that crosses fences, we'll talk it through on the visit before cutting — easier to agree than to fix.

Pre-sale tidy

Overgrown hedges shadow houses and shrink kerb appeal. One cut before viewings is often the highest-impact garden job before a sale.

FAQ

Good to know.

Most domestic hedges are best trimmed in late spring and late summer. Formal evergreens (box, yew) prefer a single late-summer cut. Fast-growing species like privet or leylandii benefit from two or three cuts a year.
Only after checking carefully. UK bird-nesting season runs March–August and we follow RSPB guidance — if we find an active nest we postpone the cut, no charge. Most cutting work is best scheduled outside the peak nesting months anyway.
Up to about 4m / 13ft as standard with pole trimmers. Taller or very thick hedges may need specialist kit — quoted on visit.
Yes — cuttings are cleared as part of the visit. For very large jobs (long laurel runs, leylandii resets) waste removal may be quoted separately. Confirmed on the site visit.
Usually yes, but it may need a reset cut and possibly a follow-up the next season rather than a single trim. We'll explain on the visit what's possible without killing the hedge back.
